Ivy Clearance at Carrow Bridge, Norwich

We were approached by a leading marine engineering company to clear an extensive ivy infestation from a key structure at Carrow Bridge. Over time, the ivy had completely smothered the building, growing into cracks, covering windows, and even interfering with wiring. Given its proximity to Norwich City Football Stadium, clearing the vegetation was essential to protect the structure and improve safety.

Location: Carrow Bridge, Norwich (near Norwich City Football Stadium)
Date:  12th - 13th March 2025
Scope: Removal of dense ivy growth from infrastructure

How We Got It Done

  • Careful Cutting and Removal – The ivy was cut at the base and gradually taken down to prevent damage to the building.
  • Preserving the Structure – Removing ivy can be tricky, as pulling it off aggressively can damage masonry, so we took a controlled approach to ensure minimal impact.
  • Efficient Site Clearance – All green waste was cleared and disposed of responsibly, ensuring a clean site with no risk of regrowth in gutters or drains.

Our Key Takeaways

Structural Safety is Crucial – Ivy can weaken buildings if left unchecked, so early intervention is always the best approach.
Visibility Matters – Whether for security cameras or general site maintenance, clearing overgrowth makes a huge difference.
Prevention is Key – Without regular maintenance, ivy can quickly return, so we recommended periodic checks to keep it under control.

Our Summary

This project was a great example of why proactive vegetation management is so important.
The ivy had been left to grow for too long, but with careful removal, we’ve restored the structure’s integrity and visibility. Another job well done by the team at Encompass Environmental Ltd!
